Tips for car renting in Uvita
Adobe Rent a Car, Uvita, Costa Rica
Costa Rica’s Southern Pacific Zone is known for having one of the prettiest stretches of shoreline in the country. The town of Uvita is its primary commercial hub and serves a handful of beach communities up and down the coast.
Available amenities include clinics, pharmacies, grocery stores, and a colorful assortment of hotels and restaurants for all budgets.
Uvita is quickly becoming a favorite among visitors for its natural treasures. Lush rainforest-clad mountains, waterfalls, and beautiful beaches are copious. But the town’s most endearing feature is the stunning Marino Ballena National Park.
Marino Ballena became a national park in 1992. Today it spans approximately 1,350 hectares of land and marine territory. The park was originally designated to protect the area’s warm nutrient-rich waters frequented by whale and dolphin species.
Humpback whales in particular migrate from both the southern and northern hemispheres to breed and raise their young near shore. The area is rightfully known as Costa Ballena or Whale’s Coast in tribute to the fascinating creatures.
Oddly enough, one of the park’s main draws is an immense sand bar shaped like a giant whale’s tail. The remarkable landmark appears at low tide twice a day. Visitors can walk the length of the “tail” to take pictures or swim in the warm waters along the shore.
Getting to Uvita, Costa Rica
Uvita is 212 km, approximately 3:45 hours, from Adobe’s San Jose Airport office on well paved roads. Take Route 27 (Carretera Nacional José María Castro Madriz) west to the Costanera Highway 34 (Carretera Pacífica Fernández Oreamuno). Then continue south past Dominical to Uvita.
Route 34 spans the Central Pacific Coast starting near Orotina and Route 27 in the north. It ends at Palmar Norte near the Osa Peninsula in the south.
When you’re planning a trip to Uvita and the Southern Zone keep in mind that it’s best to rent a car. Public transportation is a viable option for getting around. However, many of the region’s most beautiful attractions are off the main thoroughfares.
Relying on public buses, shuttles, and taxis can be both time consuming and expensive.

Top tips for renting a car in Uvita
You’ve probably heard that driving in Costa Rica is sometimes challenging. And It’s true. Follow these tips for car renting in Uvita and you’re sure to have a memorable time.
The country’s natural geography includes tall mountains, volcanoes, rainforests, myriad rivers, and extensive coastlines.
Then there are the seasons. There are two dominant seasons in Costa Rica, wet and dry. However, because the country has an abundance of cloud and rainforests, rain is always a factor. It’s even an everyday occurrence in some places.
This means that heavy rain, fog, and wet or windy roads are commonplace. So it’s always best to be prepared and take it slow. Most travelers choose to visit during the dry season to get the most of the fair weather.
The dry season runs from December to May on the Pacific Coast and in the interior. On the Caribbean side, the driest months are January, March, September, and October.
Keep in mind that most mornings are sunny and dry even during the rainy season. Take advantage of the good weather and road conditions and get an early start whenever possible.
