We are committed to cutting greenhouse gas emissions and supporting Costa Rica\u2019s path to carbon neutrality. Over recent years, we\u2019ve made measurable progress toward becoming a carbon-neutral company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our journey is part of a broader effort to demonstrate how the private sector can lead in corporate social responsibility CSR initiatives and CSR efforts, not only by complying with regulations but by taking real steps toward achieving net carbon neutrality and supporting the local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s a closer look at the actions we&#8217;re taking, the progress we&#8217;ve made, and how we&#8217;re contributing to Costa Rica&#8217;s environmental goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-costa-rica\"><strong>Why Costa Rica?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Costa Rica leads the way with its eco-friendly spirit and commitment to clean energy. Although not yet carbon neutral, the country aims to achieve this goal by 2050 through its National Decarbonization Plan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Transportation\u2014especially CO\u2082 emissions from vehicles\u2014is one of the hardest challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Simple Things You Can Do to Support a Carbon Neutral Future<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. Choose Eco-Friendly Transportation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rent hybrid, electric, or fuel-efficient vehicles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carpool or use public transportation when possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. Reduce Fuel Use<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Drive smoothly and avoid idling.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep your car well-maintained (tire pressure, engine health).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. We focus on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Measuring carbon footprint and GHG emissions<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reducing emissions<\/strong> where possible<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Offsetting the rest<\/strong> with verified carbon credits<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These efforts support Costa Rica&#8217;s carbon neutral goals and have a positive impact on local communities and our supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-we-cut-down-carbon\"><strong>How We Cut Down Carbon<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Smarter logistics and lower fuel consumption<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Greener fleet<\/strong>: hybrid and fuel-efficient cars<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Better workshops<\/strong>: updated AC units, fewer refrigerant leaks<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Staff training<\/strong>: eco-driving methods and green practices<br><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our goal is to achieve long-term emissions reductions and improve fuel efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tracking-progress-our-carbon-neutral-journey\"><strong>Tracking Progress: Our Carbon Neutral Journey<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To reach carbon-neutral certification, we follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>2023 emissions inventory<\/strong>: tracking CO\u2082 from our fleet, workshops, offices, fuel sales, refrigerants, and waste<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GHG tracking tool<\/strong>: we measure and report emissions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2023, we developed a comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory to account for all significant emission sources across our business operations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report included emissions from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Fossil fuels<\/strong> used in our transportation fleet and workshops. Efforts to reduce fuel consumption<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lubricants<\/strong> and <strong>refrigerant gas<\/strong> leaks (notably from older air conditioning units)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emissions from <strong>fire extinguishers<\/strong>, <strong>CO<\/strong><strong>\u2082<\/strong><strong> tanks<\/strong>, and <strong>acetylene<\/strong> used in auto bodywork<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Electricity consumption<\/strong> across our offices and service centers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Waste from <strong>septic tanks<\/strong> and <strong>solid waste<\/strong> sent to landfills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fuel sales<\/strong> to customers through our extended vehicle services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This detailed inventory helps us set realistic, science-based goals for <strong>emissions reductions<\/strong> and track our progress annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reducing and Offsetting Emissions: Two Pillars of Sustainability<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once we identified our emissions, the next step was taking action\u2014both to <strong>reduce<\/strong> emissions where possible and to <strong>offset <\/strong>the remainder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Offset actions<\/strong>: we buy verified carbon credits from reforestation and renewable energy projects, including local ones<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-it-matters\"><strong>Why It Matters<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We aim to be an example for other businesses in our industry and businesses in general. Our goal is to become leaders in reaching carbon neutrality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Environmental responsibility<\/strong>: We cut CO\u2082, reduce fuel consumption, and lower fossil fuel use<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Corporate social responsibility<\/strong>: Our CSR initiatives show how businesses can help society and the planet<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Community ties<\/strong>: We support local projects, source responsibly, and raise environmental awareness<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-faqs\"><strong>FAQs<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1) Is Costa Rica carbon neutral?<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>Not yet, but we\u2019re getting closer every year. People around the world recognize Costa Rica for its strong environmental policies and long-term commitment to sustainability.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than <strong>98% of the country\u2019s electricity comes from renewable energy sources<\/strong> like hydroelectric, wind, solar, and geothermal power.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The country has made significant progress in restoring its forests. Since the 1980s, it has doubled its forest cover through reforestation programs and the establishment of protected areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>National Decarbonization Plan<\/strong> lays out Costa Rica\u2019s path to becoming <strong>carbon neutral by 2050<\/strong>. This includes strategies to electrify transport, improve public transit, and increase <strong>environmental awareness<\/strong> among citizens and companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Costa Rica isn\u2019t yet fully carbon neutral, it\u2019s one of the few countries with a clear, science-based plan to achieve this goal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The focus is on <strong>reducing emissions<\/strong> at the source and investing in <strong>carbon offset<\/strong> projects, such as forest conservation, to <strong>achieve net-zero<\/strong> emissions over the long term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2) What does \u201ccarbon neutral\u201d mean?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We balance the carbon dioxide (CO\u2082) we produce by supporting projects that help clean the air and reduce carbon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3) <\/strong><strong>Is Costa Rica really eco-friendly?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Costa Rica ranks among the world\u2019s most eco-friendly countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4) <\/strong><strong>How is Adobe Rent a Car reducing its environmental impact?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We reduce our impact through several types of corporate social responsibility, as well as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By using fuel-efficient cars, cutting energy use, improving workshops, training staff, and funding carbon offsets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fuel-efficient cars<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reducing energy use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replacing outdated infrastructure with <strong>environmentally friendly<\/strong> alternatives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improving workshops<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training staff &#8211; employee engagement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Purchasing <strong>carbon credits<\/strong> to offset residual emissions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We aim to achieve carbon neutrality and set a positive example for caring for our community. Everything we do contributes to reaching this goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5) Is Costa Rica the greenest country?<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Costa Rica is one of the most environmentally friendly countries in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Nature Conservation Index (2024) <\/strong>ranks Costa Rica 10th in the world for its protection of nature.
